DeJuan Tartt
Co-founder, NutraDetective
DeJuan Tartt co-founded NutraDetective with his wife, Ahnjonee Tartt.
DeJuan grew up in San Francisco. Like most kids, he ate cereal from a box and never read a food label.
That changed when he watched Food, Inc., a documentary from 2009 about how food is made in the United States. He started reading labels for the first time and looking up what the words meant. Over the next few years, he switched to grass-fed beef, then became a vegetarian. In 2014, he went vegan.
DeJuan and Ahnjonee spent more than ten years learning what is in their food. Most people don't have ten years. So they built an app that does the looking up for you, right in the store aisle.
DeJuan and Ahnjonee co-author the articles on this site and review them before they go live. Neither of them is a doctor or a dietitian. They work to link each health claim to the source it comes from, like the FDA or a published study.
They are not perfect, and mistakes can happen. If you see something that is not quite right, please let them know. They will look into it and make changes where needed.
