Where it was sold

The company says the pouches were sold only through Kroger, Meijer and Target retail stores nationwide between March 6, 2026 and July 13, 2026.

FDA's enforcement report lists distribution in these states:

Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

What happened

The company said it started the recall after its packaging supplier recalled a production run of defective pouches. Its own inspections of finished product made with that packaging "confirmed the presence of a strand of a soft, food-grade plastic attached to the inside of a small number of pouches."

The company's notice does not name its supplier. FDA's enforcement report also lists a separate recall by Cheer Pack of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts. It covers 322,450 spouted 4-ounce food pouches made for packaging Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry, because the pouch "may release thin plastic strips into food." FDA also classified that recall as Class II.

PT Organics Limited announced its recall on July 21, 2026, and FDA posted the notice the same day. FDA classified the recall as Class II on August 6, 2026, and listed it in its August 12, 2026 enforcement report. That report lists the recall as ongoing.

FDA describes Class II as "a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote."

About the plastic strands

The recall notice describes the problem as "a strand of soft, food-grade plastic" that may be in the finished product. FDA's enforcement report describes it as a "possible foreign object (thin, soft plastic strands)." The company said, "No injuries have been reported."

Another recall for material that doesn't belong in food: Ajinomoto, Trader Joe's and Kroger frozen fried rice and gyoza (glass pieces).
