Kayem Foods Recall 2026: Hot Dogs, Bacon, Ham and Chicken Sausage, About 1.58 Million Pounds

Kayem Foods is recalling about 1.58 million pounds of ready-to-eat hot dogs, bacon, ham, sausage and other meats that may have been stored too warm. Some may still be in your refrigerator.

Look for EST. M/P 7839, EST. P 20935A or EST. M 9520 inside the USDA mark of inspection on the package. Then find the product name in the list below. The recalled products have expiration dates from June 14, 2026 to February 8, 2027. If yours matches, don't eat it. Throw it away or return it to the place of purchase.

The short version

• Kayem Foods Inc., of Chelsea, Massachusetts, is recalling about 1,584,361 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry because it may have been stored at unsafe temperatures.
• The products include hot dogs and franks, bacon, ham, turkey breast, chicken sausage, bologna, liverwurst, kielbasa and corned beef. Brand names on the labels include Kayem, al fresco, McKenzie, Genoa and Deutschmacher.
• They were made from about March 31, 2026 to October 7, 2026, and shipped to stores and foodservice locations nationwide and to Hong Kong.
• USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) rates this a Class I recall, its high-risk class.
• There have been no confirmed reports of illness.

What happened in the Kayem recall

On October 1, 2026, Kayem got a complaint from a store that products were warm when they were delivered. The company looked into it and found it had stored ready-to-eat meat and poultry in a warehouse cooler that had temperature problems.

FSIS announced the recall on October 17, 2026, as recall 026-2026. FSIS is concerned that some product may still be in people's refrigerators.

The recall notice does not say that any bacteria were found in these products. It says the products may have been stored at the wrong temperature.

What "Class I" means

FSIS rates this recall Class I, high risk. FSIS describes Class I as "a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."

Recalled products

Kayem Foods (announced October 17, 2026)

The names are written exactly as USDA lists them, using short store codes. "AF" items are al fresco products (chicken sausages, breakfast patties, meatballs and one turkey breast), and "MCK" items are McKenzie products, as shown on USDA's label pictures.

USDA's product list has 474 lot entries for these 68 product names. Some items have no unit UPC on the list. For those, use the product name and the establishment number.

Why temperature matters

USDA says bacteria grow fastest between 40 °F and 140 °F, and can double in number in as little as 20 minutes. USDA calls this range the "Danger Zone." Keep cold food at or below 40 °F.
